The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention acknowledges that limited data are available on suicide among people with disabilities. In fact, in a recent survey, adults with disabilities were three times more likely to report suicidal ideation in the past month compared to persons without disabilities.

Members of SBA’s Adult Advisory Council (AAC) agreed that suicide prevention is an important topic for adults with Spina Bifida who have at times felt hopeless when facing seemingly-endless medical problems or other challenges such as dating or making friends, securing a job, or finding accessible and affordable housing.

In this SB-YOU session, "A Conversation about Suicide Prevention," a panel of AAC members will share warning signs, resources, safety tips, and experiences.

Note: If you are in crisis or think you may have an emergency, call your doctor or 911 immediately. If you are having suicidal thoughts, call 988 to talk to a skilled, trained counselor at a crisis center in your area at any time (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline). If you are located outside the United States, call your local emergency line immediately.
